What do Chiropractors Do?

Chiropractors remove a serious interference in your body's health, vertebral subluxations. When your body is free from subluxations, you are more balanced with less stress on your nervous system and body structure. This is very important as your nervous system is the center of your body's functions, thoughts, memory, learning and consciousness. Nerves control muscle tension, blood vessel openings, glandular function, spatial orientation, pain, touch, vibration, vision, hearing, taste and other senses. All of your internal organs receive nerve supply from your spine. As one understands how the body functions and how many of the functions are based in the spine and through the nervous system, it brings the point home of how important it is to help our body by keeping the spine free from subluxations so that the body can function at its best.

Dr. Bell, Dr. Simpson and Dr. Griffith work with you every step of the way, beginning at your return to good health and then maintaining your body's peak performance through occasional adjustments. We keep our cars in good running order with frequent maintenance, and we feel our bodies deserve better treatment - you can't trade your body in for a newer model.  Finding a great chiropractor, who works with you to understand your body and provides holistic care makes the difference.

What caused my Vertebral Subluxation?

A Vertebral Subluxation can be caused by any type of stress that overwhelms the body. Many patients are surprised to find that they have subluxations they didn't know about. Often a pain that is felt in an entirely different section of the body, can be traced back to its originating root as a subluxation of the spine. Subluxations can be caused by a difficult birth or delivery, an auto accident, a fall - no matter how long ago, even as a child - bad posture, eating a lot of junk food (chemical stress), using the same body repetitions over and over, at work or at play (repetitive strain injury), intense emotional stress, being a couch potato, pushing yourself too hard, dental work, drug use or medications, surgery, working in an awkward position, a mild jar when you are unprepared, an emotional shock when your energy is low, and long car rides.

Is Chiropractic Safe?

Chiropractic is among the safest of the healing arts. As proof, one merely has to compare malpractice rates between chiropractors and other health professionals. The malpractice premiums of Chiropractors are only a fraction of the cost as compared to other medical doctors and surgeons.

Do Chiropractors Believe in Medicine and Surgery?

Absolutely. Chiropractors agree that in certain situations, medication and/or surgery are necessary to help a problem. What they also agree on is that there is never a time when the nervous system should not be cared for as well. Holistic Chiropractors, like those here at Academy Street Chiropractic, also agree that there is a strong mind and body connection and that both should be enhanced and nourished so that each person can achieve their full potential.

Can Spines Automatically Go Back in Place?

Yes. There are documented cases where people have suffered a mild trauma and the result was that a problem that existed is reversed, however chiropractic treatment is a much safer and consistent route.

What Type of Education Does a Chiropractor Receive?

A lot of people ask how chiropractic education compares to a traditional medical education. Since both work with the human body, there is much similarity in their studies. By the time a Chiropractor earns his Doctorate of Chiropractic degree, they have studied Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Diagnosis, Neurology, X-ray, Psychiatry, Obstetrics, Orthopedics, Spinal Adjustments, Manipulations, Advanced Radiology, Pharmacology, Immunology and General Surgery. The education doesn't stop there, our doctors believe in Continued Education and attend conferences and lectures throughout the year, learning the newest techniques and treatments for pediatric care, sport injuries and much more.

At what age should Chiropractic begin?

Academy Street Chiropractic is dedicated to family care and sees patients from age 0-100! Subluxations can begin at any age, even newborns can safely receive spinal adjustments, especially after a difficult or traumatic birth. As children grow and develop, gentle chiropractic care helps to boost their immune system and make them less susceptible to colds and the flu. Children are also treated with great success with colic and infant ear infections. Many children with asthma and allergies problems have enjoyed great success through chiropractic care and are able to relieve most if not all symptoms.
